My Day As An Indie Developer

My day:

  • Wake. Turn on my PC and brew coffee.
  • Open Trello, Unity, and Photoshop. Start work immediately. Work non-stop, sometimes forgetting to eat.  I may work 12 to 20 hours, depending on my resolve.
  • I blast My Top Rated playlist in iTunes to keep me going.
  • I rock the pomodoro technique when I can’t seem to focus.
  • I have professional Skype meetings where I say things like “What if the crystals get carried away before the princess?” and “What if the buildings are powered by starlight?”
  • I eat food that I prepared in bulk for the week, unless I am out of food and I need to do the preparing.
  • I do squats, lunges, and pushups while waiting for food to heat, or during my pomodoro breaks.
  • When it starts getting late and I’m getting burnt out I have a shot of tequila and keep working with a renewed sense of purpose. I do this until a friend hits me up on Steam and I play some StarCraft.
  • Finally, before bed,  my favorite thing to do is watch Survivorman.  I command my pc to “>shutdown -s -t 1800”,  I start the next episode of Surviorman, and I drift off to sleep listening to the calm, soothing explanations of how to start a fire, build a shelter, catch game, or enjoy wild edibles. My PC shuts itself off after I fall asleep.
  • Restart
